What exactly is that ChipIn box doing on the right side of the site? Why should I ChipIn?

Well, if you have spent anytime at all behind the scenes of a Drupal based web site, you've met Views. http://drupal.org/project/views. Every site I've ever worked with uses Views for presenting most of it's data. Views is basically a query builder, that allows you to get the information from your database and display it the way you want to.

Up until the official announcement on May 22, 2012, http://www.angrydonuts.com/help-fund-views-in-core, Views has always been a separate module to be downloaded and installed after Drupal's core has been installed and configured. After this initiative succeeds, and all the hard work has been put in, Views will be included in the core of Drupal 8. The little ChipIn box on the right side of my site is to help raise the funds necessary to see this initiative succeed and get Views into Drupal 8.

This is a super important initiative in my opinion, and I look forward to seeing it succeed, and will be doing whatever I can to help it along.
